Auto Expo 2023: You may now stop drooling over shiny new car models and cutting-edge technology if you’re an automobile fanatic. The nation’s premier motor show, Auto Expo 2023, has returned after a one-year gap. The newest edition of the expo is anticipated to offer hundreds of debuts beginning on January 13, as star brand ambassadors brighten display rooms amid a frenzy of auto enthusiasts and industry heavyweights. Since the third Covid-19 wave in 2022 led organisers to postpone the flagship show, many people were dissatisfied, the event was this time organised after three years, rather than two years.
However, organisers are becoming more and more excited about the Auto Expo 2023, which will take place at two locations within the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). The passenger four-wheelers, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles would be lined up at the India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida, while the auto component galleries would be held in the original location of the Pragati Maidan complex in Delhi. Manufacturers anticipate sending down a variety of attention-grabbers, including Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Varun Dhawan, among others, to entice hesitant customers. The exhibition was first conceptualised in 1985, debuted at Pragati Maidan the following year, and started hosting new launches in 2006.

Few carmakers will not be present at the Auto Expo 2023
The Auto Expo has seen its share of ups and downs, but this year’s lineup of big automakers is significantly diminished, which is a letdown. Major automakers including Mahindra & Mahindra, Volkswagen, Skoda, Honda Cars, Nissan, and Renault have decided to skip it, despite the fact that Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Toyota are likely to reveal some of their concepts. The most recent edition has hardly attracted any attention in the luxury cars class, which typically draws large crowds to auto expos around the world. Only Lexus has confirmed its attendance at the show, with the majority of the major luxury automobile companies staying away, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Jaguar Land Rover.
Meanwhile, decreased interest in ICE models among consumers of two-wheelers may have also contributed to key automakers missing the show starting in 2018.
Even less interest is shown in the ICE (internal combustion engine) two-wheeler market. Customers won’t find five of the top two-wheeler manufacturers in the nation at the expo: Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and Royal Enfield. Coincidentally, these brands were not present for the 2020 edition as well.
The reason behind the absence
Industry insiders claim that a number of factors have influenced the corporations’ choice, despite the fact that the companies have not provided an explanation for their recent lack of interest in the event. A top executive from a significant two-wheeler manufacturer claims that the event’s time and location have diminished its appeal. “Given the harsh cold weather conditions in early January and the distant location of the event venue (from Delhi), we do not expect much returns on our investment,” he says.
