Bike Care Tips: Especially in the cold, far too many of us have trouble starting our bikes in the morning. You can damage your engine using one of these methods. In this article, we have share a few tried and tested ways of starting your bike’s engine properly this winter.
Why does your bike face issues while starting in winter?
As the engine cools down in cold weather, the ignition system may not start the engine. A certain temperature range is required for motorcycle engines to run. The fuel supply may be negatively impacted by a temperature decrease. You should check the fuel, motorcycle battery, and fuel supply before starting your bike.
Ways to start your bike in winter
Park the Motorcycle in a Warm Place
Make sure to keep your motorbike indoors where it is warm when you park or store it during cold or snowy weather. To keep your motorcycle warm in the absence of a garage, you can use insulated covers. This will shield the engine from the wind, scrapes, and insects in addition to preventing the engine’s temperature from falling.
Use the kick
Instead of a kick-start lever, the majority of modern motorcycles are equipped with an electronic starter that simply has to be pressed. Some motorcycles, though, include an electric starter in addition to a Kickstarter. Kick-starting is a mechanical technique that keeps the battery from dying in cold temperatures and is independent of outside influences. Make sure to use the kickstarting on your motorcycle occasionally if it has both an electric and a kickstarter. As a result, the battery holds its charge longer and does not discharge as quickly.
Idle the engine
Due to the low air temperature, even if the engine on your motorbike starts up correctly the first time, it may not start again at the next stop. Your motorcycle will warm up and maintain a minimum temperature if you let the engine run while you go on a trip. Ideally, the engine should be idle in the garage for a minimum of 7 to 15 minutes before driving on.
Use the choke
Motorcycles with fuel injection nowadays don’t have choke valves. A mechanical device called the choke prevents denser air from getting into the engine and combining with the fuel. If you are experiencing problems starting your motorcycle in the cold, you might try opening the choke. It is important to turn off the choke two minutes after starting your motorcycle because riding it with the choke open will use more petrol.
Dont leave it parked for long
Long-term parking of the motorcycle can cause a number of problems, such as brittle tyres, rust, fungal accumulation, battery degradation, and deteriorated fuel and oil quality. Every few days, even if you are unable to ride your motorcycle because of the snow, you should nevertheless start it and let the engine run in order to maintain its warmth.
