BNCAP to start Safety Ratings from October 1, Maruti and Tata Welcomes the Initiative, all you need to know

Till now, Crash tests of all the Cars were conducted through Global NCAP, but Indian Government has decided to conduct these Crash tests in the country itself, Authorities have decided to implement the Bharat New Car Assesment Program (BNCAP) soon, In Accordance of which all the crash tests and Safety ratings will be given in India through BNCAP. Mainstream Car manufacturers in India such as Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota has welcomed this initiative.

Mahindra Supports Bharat New Car Assesment Programme

In a statement, Veluswamy R, president of Mahindra Automotive Technology and Product Development said that “We at Mahindra believe that this is one of the bold steps taken bt Ministry of Road Transport and we are commited to Bharat NCAP (BNCAP). We Welcome the implementation of this Initiative. He added that “This Initiative of MoRTH will create a level playing field and generate healthy competition among OEMs to make safe models for Indian customers.

Implementation Will Start from October 1

According to a PTI Report, implementation of this program will start from October 1, 2023. Government has also released a draft document which proposes that Goverment will award safety “Star ratings” to Vehicles on the basis of their performance in Crash test.

Maruti Suzuki Supports BNCAP

Rahul Bharti Executive Officer (Corporate), Maruti Suzuki India said that “We Support this initiative”, He Further added that Empowering Customer through Authentic information is always a positive and welcome move, therefore Maruti Suzuki Supports it.

Automobile Manufacturers Will be Required to Apply

As this Program implements, Companies will be needed to submit an application in Form 70-A to the authority held responsible by Central Government. Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197 will be the base of Motor Vehicle’s Star Ratings, the Star Ratings of all the tested Vehicles will be uploaded on the Portal by the designated Authority.
