Airfare Increase: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu convened a high-level review meeting today to address the ongoing situation and prioritize passenger safety and convenience. The meeting included key officials such as the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Director General of Civil Aviation, the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, and Joint Secretaries of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
War Room Establishment
To manage the situation efficiently, a 24/7 War Room will be established under the close monitoring of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This War Room will handle full refunds for cancelled flights or provide alternative travel route tickets within a stipulated time of seven days. Airfare Advisory
The Ministry has released an advisory to all airlines to ensure that the ongoing situation does not lead to a steep increase in airfare. Airlines are instructed to maintain fare stability to avoid passenger inconvenience.
Structural Strength Inspection
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been directed to issue a circular to all airports, both minor and major, to conduct a thorough inspection of structural strength. These inspections must be completed within the next 2-5 days, with reports submitted to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Based on the findings, necessary safety measures and long-term policies will be formulated to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Initial Investigation Team Deployment
Structural Engineers from IIT Delhi have been asked to immediately assess the incident at Delhi’s T1 terminal. Further examination will be decided based on their initial findings. Similarly, AAI will examine the Jabalpur incident.
