Paralympics 2024 – India’s Largest Contingent Ready to Compete
India is ready to leave a lasting impression in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, which will take place from August 28 to September 8. With 84 competitors, India is sending its largest-ever contingent this year—a significant increase over the 54 individuals who competed for the nation in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. There are 32 female athletes in the contingent, indicating a positive rise in the number of female participants. The Paralympic roster now includes para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo in addition to the twelve disciplines in which the Indian participants will compete.
India had an excellent showing at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, winning 19 medals in all (five gold, eight silver, and six bronze). There are great hopes for the next games in Paris because of this outstanding accomplishment. The rise in athletes and the addition of new sports are indicative of India’s increasing focus on encouraging and assisting para-athletes.
