Anant Ambani Radhika Merchant Wedding: At their Mumbai residence, Antilia, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant had a sumptuous Mameru ceremony to officially kick off their pre-wedding festivities. For those who are unaware, the mameru ceremony is a Gujarati wedding custom in which the bride’s maternal uncle, or mama, pays her a visit and presents her with jewelry, a saree, and other items.
The Tradition of Mameru
A beloved Gujarati wedding tradition known as the Mameru ceremony involves the bride’s maternal uncle, or “mama,” paying her a visit and bringing gifts and sweets. A Panetar saree, jewels, ivory or white chura (bangles), and a gorgeously organized selection of sweets and dried fruits in trousseau trays are typical gifts. The blessings and best wishes of the bride’s maternal family are represented by this ritual as she sets out on her new adventure.
