Future Group’s supermarket chain Big Bazaar will launch a mega-discounting event in April after a gap of more than one year. Reliance Industries will indirectly help the Future Group in conducting the event by way of sourcing products and financing of related marketing expenses, the Economic Times mentioned in a report.
The event, which will be like its “Sabse Sasta Din” introduced 15 years ago, Big Bazaar will give Rs 500 worth of fresh produce on shopping of Rs 2,500 and will launch advertising campaigns across general entertainment channels, print and digital media.
Big Bazaar had last conducted such deep discounting event way back in January 2020.
It has transformed the way India shops over the years, inspired other similar “shopping festivals,” and evolved into a carnival-like event that people look forward to year after year.
Around the year 2000, the idea of a “supermarket” was still seen as a predominantly Western concept. The majority of people have just heard about it or seen it on American sitcoms. Most Indians shopped for groceries and other household products at the neighbourhood Kirana store.
Since the past three months, Reliance Retail has started using Future Group’s supply chain unit for its logistics and warehousing needs in the food, groceries and fashion retail businesses, even as both firms await the final approvals for their deal for retail assets.
“Big Bazaar is back to driving growth. The full range of assortment is back, our shelves and fixtures are abundant with stocks. We have market leading pricing across all products. All our promotional programmes have been restored. We have activated our customer database to craft personalized offers, disruptive saving and excitement to them,” said Sasashiv Nayak, chief executive officer at Big Bazaar. “Sabse Bada Offer” would be a significant cornerstone for us by offering disproportional saving to our customers and disruption to build consumption in these times.”
