New Delhi: Recorcd dividends from publicly traded public sector enterprises (PSUs) are expected to be paid to the centre. Business Standard said that the government is projected to get a net dividend of about Rs 63,056 crore for FY23, which will be the highest-ever payout, based on the recommended final dividend from 67 PSUs. The Centre had previously earned the largest dividend in FY14, totaling Rs 42,150 crore.
Projected Increase in Dividend Income
The predicted sum, according to the report, is around 25% greater than the dividend of Rs. 50,583 crore that state-owned listed companies paid out in FY22. Additionally, as PSUs like GAIL (India), Hindustan Copper, and Balmer Lawrie have still to issue their final equity dividends, the overall dividend income for FY23 could rise even further, according to the research. The dividend for FY23 is also over twice as much as the Rs 29,049 crore it collected from these PSUs in FY19, the previous fiscal year before the implementation of Covid. A huge rise of 56 percent compared to their FY22 payment of Rs 11,525 crore, state-controlled banks and financial institutions are anticipated to contribute over Rs 18,000 crore for FY23, according to BS analysis.

Non-Financial PSUs Set to Contribute Rs 45,000 Crore in FY23
Additionally, it is projected that non-financial PSUs including Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Coal India, NTPC, and PowerGrid Corp will give the government about Rs 45,000 crore for FY23. According to the report, this is an increase of 15.4% from their FY22 payment of Rs 39,059 crore. The analysis is based on the interim and final dividends that listed PSBs have recommended for FY23 and have disclosed in their fiscal year’s financial statements. Based on its ownership of these corporations, the government determines the dividend it receives from PSUs. A total dividend contribution from the 67 listed PSUs of Rs. 1.02 lakh crore is anticipated for FY2023, exceeding the Rs. 84,665 crore disbursed in FY22. The government’s non-tax revenue for FY24 will include a sizeable chunk of this dividend payment from the PSUs for FY23. According to the Union Budget 2023–24, the government anticipates receiving dividends and income from central non–financial PSUs of Rs. 43,000 crore in FY24.
