PM Modi: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dismissed the notion that his government suffered because of the election bond issue, arguing that no system is flawless and that any flaws could be fixed. Additionally, he warned that people who are “dancing” over the issue will repent it.
Evaluation of Electoral Bond Impact
In response to a question about whether the electoral bond information had hurt the ruling BJP, he told Thanthi TV in an interview that, “Tell me what we have done that I should see it as a setback? I firmly believe that those dancing over it (bond details) and taking pride in it are going to repent.”
The Prime Minister claimed that the ability to identify the money sources and recipients was made possible by the electoral bond system his administration implemented. He stated that the existence of bonds is the reason a trail is available now and asked if any organisation could provide information regarding the financing sources and recipients of the polls conducted before to 2014, the year he took office.
Acknowledging Imperfections in Systems
“No system is perfect. There can be shortcomings which could be improved upon,” he said. The Supreme Court’s judgement, which declared the practice of anonymous fundraising unconstitutional and made all information pertaining to electoral bonds public, has led opposition parties to point fingers at the administration.
Large purchasers of these bonds have included numerous companies under criminal investigation. Modi stated in the interview that one should not interpret his actions as political, adding that Tamil Nadu is the country’s greatest asset and that he works for the country.
Prioritizing Development over Electoral Gain
PM Modi stated that if winning votes were his primary goal, he would not have done as much for the Northeast states, pointing out that over 150 of his government’s ministers have travelled there, and he has personally visited the area more often than all previous prime ministers combined.
“Just because I am a politician does not mean I work only to win elections. Tamil Nadu has huge potential which must not be wasted,” he said. He added that the votes the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will receive in Tamil Nadu will not be anti-DMK but rather pro-BJP, saying that the alliance unites various facets of society and reflects the aspirations of people.
BJP’s Confidence in Tamil Nadu Support
He said, “People have witnessed the work we have done over the past 10 years. Tamil Nadu has decided that this time it will be the BJP-NDA.” According to him, the BJP continued to support Tamil Nadu even in the absence of any municipal candidates.
Modi also commended K Annamalai, the president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, adding that he is drawing in young people. The prime minister stated that they believe he could have joined the DMK if money and corruption were his driving forces.
“Viksit Bharat means that every corner of the country should be a recipient of development. I believe that Tamil Nadu has the potential to become the driving force behind our dream of a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Critique of Opposition’s Language Politics
In a jab at opposition parties that have frequently accused the BJP of weakening regional languages, Modi expressed sadness over the politicisation of the Tamil language and stated that, just as the state’s food has become more globally recognised, so too should its dialect be supported.
“The politicisation of the Tamil language has been detrimental not only to Tamil Nadu but also to the country,” he said.
