Frido CEO Ganesh Sonawane Recalls Being Denied Entry to Bengaluru Restaurant with Ather CEO Swapnil Jain for THIS Reason

Bengaluru Mall Apologises to Farmer Denied Entry for Wearing Dhoti, CEOs Face Similar Dress Code Issues

Recently, a Bengaluru mall has gained attention for not giving entry to a farmer who was wearing a dhoti. The mall has apologised after this event sparked conversations about clothing standards and discrimination. In the middle of this, Ganesh Sonawane, the founder and CEO of Frido, recounted a similar story, stating that he and Swapnil Jain, the co-founder of Ather Energy, were turned away from a restaurant in the city because they were wearing slippers rather than shoes.

Ganesh Sonawane took to X (formerly Twitter) to recount his experience, stating, “True story: Swapnil, Ather co-founder, and I once went to a restaurant in Bengaluru and were denied entry because of wearing slippers instead of shoes.” Sonawane made it clear that he did not think the restaurant’s behaviour was discriminatory, even if he did not say when the event happened. He accepted that the restaurant probably had a dress code, and they obeyed the regulations by going somewhere else to eat.

Farmer’s Experience at GT Mall

In contrast, there was a great deal of attention and outrage over the event involving the farmer, Fakeerappa. On July 16, seventy-year-old Fakeerappa with his son went to GT Mall to see a movie. However, because Fakeerappa was wearing a traditional dhoti, security staff refused to let them in. “We came to GT Mall to watch a movie at 6 pm, but the security guards said they won’t let us in because my father is wearing a dhoti,” his son remarked in a now-viral video.
