Immediately behind Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Indian tycoon Gautam Adani (60) rose to the position of the second-richest person in the world on Friday.
Adani surpassed Jeff Bezos of Amazon to take over the second position early today, according to Forbes’ real-time billionaire list.
He subsequently engaged in a competitive battle for second place with French entrepreneur Bernard Arnault. According to the most recent ranking, Arnault has once more surpassed Adani to take the second spot.
After reaching above $155 billion earlier today, Adani’s wealth decreased to $152 billion as the Sensex fell nearly 1,000 points during intraday trade.
Adani, whose corporate empire includes cement, FMCG, airport management, and infrastructure, is still a strong candidate to retake second place.
Elon Musk, meanwhile, continues to be the world’s richest person with a net worth of $273.5 billion.

The fortune of Gautam Adani has increased by more than 13 times in just over two and a half years. His net worth was about $10 billion in January 2020. Adani’s current net worth is equivalent to more than Rs 12 lakh crore in Indian rupees.
Adani established Adani Enterprises (formerly Adani Exports) in 1988 to launch a commodities trading company. He quickly established Mundra port for captive export-import activities. It also became the largest coal trading company in the nation and one of India’s top earners of foreign exchange within a decade.
