Over the next several years, Tata Motors has ambitious goals for both the electric vehicle (EV) and passenger vehicle (PV) markets. Tata intends to introduce many new models in an effort to solidify its dominance in the EV industry, building on its recent achievements in the PV market.

Tata’s Growth in the PV and EV Segments

With the release of models like the Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Punch, Harrier and Safari, Tata Motors has had phenomenal development in its PV industry in recent years. Similar progress has been seen in the EV sector, where Tata has taken the lead thanks to vehicles like the Tiago EV, Nexon EV, and Punch EV.

Upcoming EV Launches

Tata Motors plans to introduce four brand-new electric vehicles by FY2026, according to the company’s most recent investor presentation. The Curvv EV and Harrier EV are the first two, and their releases are planned for this fiscal year. The approaching festive season is anticipated to see the release of the coupe electric SUV, the Curvv EV, while the Harrier EV could debut early next year.

The Sierra EV and Avinya EV, both scheduled for FY2026, will come after these. In recent years, concepts for these cars have already been shown in public events like the Auto Expo. For these forthcoming EVs, Tata Motors will use the Acti.ev and EMA architectures; Acti.ev will support mass-market cars, while EMA will enable luxury offerings.

ICE and entirely electric drivetrains will be available in the Curvv and Sierra designs. Acti.ev architecture will also be used in the all-electric Harrier, which will be built on a significantly redesigned Omega platform. Like the Punch EV, this architecture will allow cutting-edge features including vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) capabilities. In recent years, test mules for the Curvv EV and Harrier EV have been seen often, indicating that their launches are imminent.

The Sierra EV and Avinya EV

Although specifics of the Sierra EV are still being emerging, the Acti.ev architecture is anticipated to serve as its foundation. Conversely, Avinya is set to launch a new line of luxury electric vehicles and SUVs, rather than just one type. This line will make use of Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) modular EMA architecture.

Tata will be able to maintain the competitiveness of the Avinya range’s price by localising the EMA platform. With an investment of Rs 9,000 crore, Tata Motors has announced the local production of next-generation JLR vehicles, including the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery Sport, at a new factory in Tamil Nadu. The Tata Gen 3 EV design, which includes the born-electric EMA skateboard platform, will serve as the foundation for the Avinya line.
