IIT Madras’ CREST Unveils Groundbreaking ‘Incubators’ Platform to Revolutionize Start-up Ecosystem

IIT Madras

In a significant development, the Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST) at IIT Madras, in collaboration with the IIT Madras-incubated start-up YNOS, has introduced India’s inaugural information platform on incubators and accelerators. Named ‘Incubators,’ this AI-powered platform aims to streamline the process for start-up founders by offering a centralized resource containing comprehensive details on over 920 incubators and accelerators across India.

Previously, despite having around 1,000 active incubators in the country, entrepreneurs struggled with scattered and inaccessible information. The ‘Incubators’ platform, developed to address this challenge, facilitates founders in identifying, comparing, and analyzing incubators effortlessly.

Formally launched in Hyderabad on November 17, 2023:

The platform was formally launched in Hyderabad on November 17, 2023, by Dr. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Departments of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Industries and Commerce, Government of Telangana, and Member of the Board of Directors of T-Hub, India’s largest incubator.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of incubation in a start-up’s lifecycle, the ‘Incubators’ platform offers benefits not only to entrepreneurs but also to CEOs, Managers of incubation centers, and other stakeholders involved in the development of the start-up ecosystem. Dr. Jayesh Ranjan emphasized the crucial link between the growth of the Indian start-up ecosystem and a robust incubator network, praising the platform for efficiently providing essential information.

Allows incubators to showcase their strengths, attract attention:

The platform’s neutral stance allows incubators to showcase their strengths, attract attention from start-up founders, policymakers, and investors, and benchmark their facilities against peers. With features such as data on supported start-ups, success ratios in obtaining funding, investor networks, and virtual incubation support prevalence, the ‘Incubators’ platform serves as a comprehensive repository for critical information.

Prof. A. Thillai Rajan, Founder and Director of YNOS Venture Engine, highlighted the platform’s significance in supporting start-ups during their initial uncertain months. He explained that ‘Incubators’ not only offers an exhaustive list of incubators but also provides insights into various parameters, enabling founders to make informed decisions.

Cutting-edge technology tools:

Developed using cutting-edge technology tools, the platform features intuitive filters for quick identification of suitable incubators based on different criteria. With data on more than 920 incubators and accelerators, including detailed information on host organizations, startup funding agencies, and focus areas of supported start-ups, the ‘Incubators’ platform empowers start-up founders to navigate the incubator landscape effectively.

In summary, the launch of the ‘Incubators’ platform marks a significant milestone in enhancing the accessibility and transparency of information within India’s start-up ecosystem, contributing to the overall growth and success of innovative ventures.
