Imran Khan slams Pakistan govt over hike in petrol, diesel prices

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again praised India and slammed the Shehbaz Sharif government for raising fuel prices by PKR 30.

Pakistan Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Thursday announced that his government had decided to increase the prices of petrol, high speed diesel, kerosene oil and diesel by Rs 30 per litre from Friday, May 27. “New prices will go into effect at midnight. The new price of petrol will be Rs 179.86 and diesel will be Rs 174.15 per litre,” he said.

While criticising the government, the Imran said this “insensitive government” has not pursued the deal made by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party with Russia for 30 per cent cheaper oil.

He went on to praise India, saying strategic ally of the US has managed to reduce fuel prices by PKR 25 per litre by buying cheaper oil from Russia.

The political and economic turmoil in Pakistan has been exceptionally turbulent since Wednesday after Imran Khan launched the Azadi March demanding fresh general elections. The political landscape, which was filled with dramatic twists and turns up to the week before Khan’s ouster via a vote of no-confidence in early April, further deteriorated after he was unceremoniously removed from his seat followed by accusations of corruption and mismanagement.
