Infosys: In honour of his 50-year relationship with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani gave his alma mater a donation of 315 crore. In order to pursue a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, Nilekani enrolled at the institute in 1973. According to a press statement, the donation will support world-class infrastructure, encourage research in cutting-edge engineering and technology fields, and support IIT Bombay’s ecosystem for deep tech startups. The donation was described as “one of the largest donations made by an alumnus in India” as well.
Giving Forward to IIT Bombay’s Future
“IIT-Bombay has been a cornerstone in my life, shaping my formative years and laying the foundation for my journey. As I celebrate 50 years of my association with this esteemed Institution, I am grateful to give forward and contribute to its future,” the release quoted. “This donation is more than just a financial contribution; it is a tribute to the place that has given me so much and a commitment to the students who will shape our world tomorrow,” he added. Nilekani and Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, director of IIT Bombay, signed the Memorandum of Understanding today in Bengaluru.

Nilekani’s Historic Donation Propels IIT Bombay Towards Global Leadership
According to Chaudhari, who was quoted in the statement, the historic gift will put IIT Bombay on a course for global leadership. “We are overjoyed to see that our esteemed graduate Nandan Nilekani is still making ground-breaking and innovative contributions to the Institute. IIT Bombay’s growth will be greatly accelerated by this historic gift, which will also firmly place it on a path towards world leadership, according to Chaudhari. Nilekani has previously given the institute donations totaling 85 crore, increasing his overall commitment to 400 crore.
