LPG Cylinder: In a bid to alleviate the cooking-related struggles faced by women below the poverty line, the Modi government introduced the Ujjwala scheme in 2016. This initiative aims to provide free gas cylinders, along with gas stoves, to economically disadvantaged women. Only women holding Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards are eligible to benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

To qualify for the scheme, women must not already possess any LPG connection and should be above 18 years of age. Additionally, they have the freedom to choose their preferred gas agency from options like Bharat Gas, HP Gas, and Indian Gas. However, cylinders are provided solely by the selected agency chosen by the women.
The application process for the scheme is accessible both online and offline
The application process for the scheme is accessible both online and offline. Women interested in applying online can visit the official website of the scheme, www.pmuy.gov.in, and navigate to the homepage menu. From there, they can download the application form, fill in the required details, and upload supporting documents such as caste certificate, BPL ration card, Aadhar card, income certificate, residence certificate, and passport-size photo.
Once the form is complete and the necessary documents are uploaded, women can submit the form at any nearby gas agency to avail the benefits of the scheme. Alternatively, they can also visit the gas agency in person to fill out the application form.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to empowering women by providing them with access to clean cooking solutions and ensuring their well-being.
