Mahindra vs Tata Cars Sales May 2024:The sales data for May 2024 in the dynamic Indian automobile industry show a competitive environment between Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) and Tata Motors Limited, two significant companies. This article explores their sales figures, showing which firm saw growth and which saw decline.

Mahindra’s Impressive Growth in May 2024

Strong sales numbers for May 2024 were released by Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., a well-known brand in the Indian automobile sector. With exports included, the business sold 71,682 cars in total, a 17% increase over the prior year.

Strong Performance in Utility Vehicles

Mahindra’s Utility Vehicles (UV) segment was its best-performing business unit. In the domestic market, the business sold 43,218 UVs, a notable 31% increase from May 2023. Inclusion of exports brought the total UV sales to 44,283 cars. Veejay Nakra, President of M&M Ltd.’s Automotive Division, claims that the overwhelmingly positive reception for the new XUV3XO contributed to this increase. In the first hour of opening on May 15, the model had 50,000 bookings; delivery began on May 26.

Commercial Vehicles and Other Segments

Mahindra’s commercial vehicle segment also showed positive results. The domestic sales of commercial vehicles stood at 19,826 units. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

Tata Motors’ Steady Growth in May 2024

Tata Motors Limited also showcased positive sales results for May 2024, though with a more modest growth compared to Mahindra. The company’s total sales in the domestic and international markets reached 76,766 vehicles, up from 74,973 units in May 2023.

Performance in Commercial Vehicles

In the commercial vehicles segment, Tata Motors recorded mixed results:

Despite some declines, the segment saw an overall increase of 2% year-on-year.

Passenger Vehicles and Electric Vehicles

Tata’s passenger vehicle (PV) segment, including electric vehicles (EVs), saw slight growth. Total domestic PV sales were 46,697 units, up 2% from May 2023. Including international sales, the total PV sales reached 47,075 units. However, EV sales saw a minor decline, with 5,558 units sold, down 4% from the previous year

Both Mahindra and Tata Motors saw increase in May 2024, however Mahindra’s percentage rise was significantly more than Tata’s. Mahindra’s impressive achievement is demonstrated by its 31% increase in the UV class and the resounding reception of the XUV3XO. Even though Tata Motors was growing, it was growing more slowly, especially in the commercial vehicle market.
