Sylvester daCubha: The creator of the enduring Amul Girl “utterly butterly” advertising campaign, Sylvester daCunha, passed away on Tuesday. Sylvester daCunha, the managing director of the advertising firm ASP at the time, and Eustace Fernandes, the agency’s art director, created the advertisement campaign, which was unveiled in 1966.

The Enduring Appeal of the Amul Girl

The mascot, whose polka-dot dress, blue hair, and pink cheeks have made her a household figure, is renowned for her one-liners on any hot topic. DaCunha aimed to develop a mascot who could position itself among moms and children, according to the book Amul’s INDIA 3.0. The choice was made for a young person to represent the brand at that point.

The Birth of the Amul Girl and her Iconic Slogan

Eustace Fernandes, who brought the Amul Girl to life, was given a description of Sylvester daCunha’s vision by him. Nisha da Cunha, Sylvester’s wife, came up with the slogan “utterly butterly delicious” for the advertising campaign. “Give us this day our daily bread: with Amul butter,” read the mascot’s introduction on a few lamppost boards in Mumbai.
