Microsoft: In a new wave of employment cuts, Microsoft has laid off 276 employees, primarily from its customer care, support, and sales divisions. The most recent layoffs “go beyond the 10,000 global layoffs announced by Microsoft on January 18,” according to Geek Wire.
276 Microsoft employees were laid off in Washington State. A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification states that the cuts will impact 66 virtual employees as well as 210 employees at the company’s Bellevue and Redmond offices.
“Organisational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business,” a spokesperson of Microsoft said in a statement.
“We will continue to prioritise and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners,” he further added.
Microsoft cut 158 jobs in Washington
Job layoffs that targeted customer support and sales positions across teams were exposed in several articles on the popular professional networking site LinkedIn. Microsoft cut 158 jobs in Washington State in May, not including the 10,000 positions that had been previously reported.
The cutbacks announced earlier this year reportedly affected over 2,700 people in the Seattle area. In January, Satya Nadella, the chairman and CEO of Microsoft, stated that the organisation will be “making changes that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by 10,000 jobs through the end of FY23 Q3 (third quarter)”.
As of early this year, the IT giant employed more than 220,000 people.
