More than two-thirds of Rs 2000 notes have returned to banks: RBI

Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Dans has said that since the announcement of withdrawal of 2000 notes, two-thirds of the notes have been deposited in the banks. Reserve Bank had announced the withdrawal of 2000 notes on May 19 and the process of withdrawing the note started from May 23. A total of 3.62 lakh crore worth notes of 2000 were in circulation. The Reserve Bank has said that out of this, notes worth Rs 2.41 lakh crore have been deposited back in the banks.

September 30 is the last date for depositing notes


During the review of the second monetary policy, till June 8, 2000 notes worth Rs 1.8 lakh crore had been deposited back in the banks and last week this figure increased to Rs 2.41 lakh crore, which is two-thirds of the total circulating notes. The rest of the notes are still in circulation. Explain that the Reserve Bank has fixed the last date for depositing 2000 notes as September 30, 2023. However, even after this people will be able to deposit 2000 notes in banks.

There will be no effect on the economy

Shaktikanta Das said that the withdrawal of 2000 notes will not have any effect on the monetary stability of the country. He said that it will not have any adverse effect on the economy. The RBI and the government have estimated that the growth rate for this financial year will be 6.5 percent. In November 2016, the government started the circulation of 2000 notes. Although the government had stopped the printing of new 2000 notes in 2018-19 itself.
