NCLAT: On Wednesday, the NCLAT upheld the CCI’s verdict penalising Internet giant Google with a fine of Rs. 1,337.76 crore. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLATtwo-member )’s bench ordered Google to follow the instruction and deposit the money within 30 days.
Court dismissed Google’s argument
The CCI order was modified by the NCLAT panel, which also included Member Alok Shrivastava and Chairperson Justice Ashok Bhushan. Court also dismissed Google’s argument that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had abused its authority in the investigation.

The CCI fined Google for engaging in anti-competitive behaviour
The CCI fined Google Rs. 1337.76 crore on October 20 of last year for engaging in anti-competitive behaviour with regard to Android mobile devices. The Internet giant was also told to stop using a number of unfair commercial tactics by the regulator. This decision was contested before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), an appeals body for the CCI’s rulings.
