Nirmala Sitharaman: In response to a query about how the “negative Western perception” of India affects investments, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged investors to “come and look” rather than heed to perceptions formed by “people who have not even visited on the ground.” On Monday, Nirmala Sitharaman participated in a talk on the resiliency and expansion of the Indian economy at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE).
Come have a look at what’s happening in India-Nirmala
“I believe that those investors who are coming to India and have been coming have the answer to that. In response to a query from PIIE President Adam S. Posen, the Finance Minister said, “And as someone who’s interested in receiving investments, I would only say, come have a look at what’s happening in India, rather than listen to perceptions being built by people who haven’t even visited on the ground and who produce reports.”
Reports of violence against Muslim minorities in India
Mr. Posen questioned Ms. Sitharaman over news in the Western press about opposition party MPs losing their status and reports of violence against Muslim minorities in India. “The Muslim population in India is the second-largest in the world, and it is only becoming more. I would like to ask, “Will this happen in India in the sense that the Muslim population will be growing than what it was in 1947? If there is a perception, or if there is in reality, that their lives are difficult or made difficult with the backing of the state, which is what is conveyed in most of these write-ups.” stated the minister of finance.

WTO should listen to all countries- Finance minister
Sitharaman disputed claims that Muslims were being persecuted in India. Therefore, it is false to say that violence is occurring throughout India in order to affect Muslims. If the Indian government is solely to blame, then tell me, has the population decreased between 2014 and the present? Has any one community had an abnormally high number of deaths? Therefore, I would prefer to extend an invitation to these reporters to visit India. I am the host. Let them demonstrate their case by travelling to India, she urged. The World Trade Organization (WTO), according to the finance minister, should “listen to all countries” and be more progressive and equitable.
