Petrol and diesel price update [21 October, 2022]: Fuel prices remained stable for another day in the country on Friday. On May 22, an Excise duty reduction of Rs. 8 per litre was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on petrol and Rs. 6 per litre on diesel. Over three months since then, the oil marketing companies decided to leave the rates untouched. Apart from that, the Maharashtra state government had announced a Value Added Tax (VAT) cut on the fuel prices in the state. Petrol was reduced by Rs. 5 per litre and diesel by Rs. 3 per liter.
Petrol in Mumbai is being sold for Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel for Rs 94.27. Petrol in Delhi costs Rs 96.72 and diesel Rs 89.62 a litre. Petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 102.63 and Rs 94.24 in Chennai and at Rs 106.03 and Rs 92.76 in Kolkata respectively.
Petrol price stood at Rs 106.03 per litre in Kolkata while diesel was sold at Rs 92.7 per litre. In Chennai, petrol was available at Rs 102.63 per litre, while diesel would cost Rs 94.24 per litre.

The difference in the price of fuel in the states are due to the tax and the cost of transportation imposed by the central and state government.

Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise fuel rates daily, taking into account crude and rupee-dollar rates in international markets. Daily price changes for fuel are effected at 6 am every day.
