Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged for the 24th consecutive day on Friday, 26 November across various cities in the country including the national capital Delhi, metro cities Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
The government cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and that on diesel by Rs 10 a litre on November 3 to give relief to consumers battered by record-high retail fuel prices.
As per the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, following the reduction, 23 states and Union Territories s also undertook a commensurate reduction of VAT on Petrol and Diesel to give relief to consumers.

The difference in the price of fuel in the states varies due to the tax and the cost of transportation imposed by the central and state government.

Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise fuel rates daily, taking into account crude and rupee-dollar rates in international markets. Daily price changes for fuel are effected at 6 am every day.
