Rajasthan News– In a major relief to state employees, the Rajasthan government has overturned a previous decision made during the Ashok Gehlot administration regarding the recovery of ₹100 crore from employees who withdrew funds from the National Pension System (NPS). Under the Gehlot government, employees were warned that they would not receive the benefits of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) if they did not return the money withdrawn from their NPS accounts.
On Friday, the Finance Department issued an order providing relief to these employees. The order stated that for those who have not yet returned the withdrawn amount, the recovery will be adjusted at the time of their retirement. These employees will be charged interest similar to that of the General Provident Fund (GPF).
₹500 Crore Withdrawn by Employees
It is noteworthy that around 90,000 police officers and education department employees withdrew a total of ₹500 crore from their NPS accounts after the implementation of OPS. Out of this, approximately ₹400 crore has already been returned.
Government Withdraws Previous Decision
The employees had filed a petition in the High Court challenging the government’s order, which denied the benefits of OPS to those who did not return the withdrawn funds. The matter was under consideration by the government, and on Friday, the state decided to reverse its earlier decision. The High Court is set to hear around 120 petitions related to this case on Monday.
