Moonlighting: “Companies shouldn’t shackle their workers and restrict their aspirations. They should have complete freedom to do what they like, with the caveat of a legally binding contract.
“There is a change in the confidence of the workers, and businesses that understand this will flourish. In his opinion on moonlighting, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Electronics & IT, Government of India, stated that everyone wants to monetize and create more value.
Young people should be permitted to work on the sidelines, according to the minister, as long as they are engaged in their own start-ups or supporting friends.
The minister hinted that we must come to terms with the fact that the younger generation is highly intelligent and cannot be prevented from expressing their creativity and expertise.
He did, however, add that he opposed IT workers working for direct competitors, particularly if such work was specifically prohibited in their employment agreements.

When did Moonlighting came into headlines?
Moonlighting became a topic of discussion after Wipro took a firm stance and fired 300 employees who were engaged in moonlighting, which is working on the side for rival companies.
300 employees had been working for competing companies during the previous few months, according to Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji. He was adamant that such conduct was unethical and that such individuals had no place in the company.
Chandrasekhar stated that “the present government’s policies have been, and are being, framed with deep structural changes” and that “this is a once in a lifetime chance to take the Indian economy up to $1 trillion.” Chandrasekhar was speaking at the Public Affairs Forum of India (PAFI) 9th Annual Forum 2022.
The Minister of State said, “I had recently visited a 1,000 crore Lithium-ion battery manufacturing unit in Tirupati set up by an entrepreneur who had no prior understanding in electronics manufacturing,” adding that this growth must be organised in an orderly manner.
Chandrasekhar claimed that this demonstrated how India has transitioned from being a country that exported raw commodities like lithium to one that now produced and exported goods.

In addition, Rajeev Chandrasekhar explained that the Digital India Act (DIA) was “work in progress,” would be completed in a few months, and will shortly replace the out-of-date IT Act. He further stated that, in the wake of the digital explosion, DIA will take into account all new realities.
