Fraudsters are sending SMS claiming to be from SBI, urging you to click on a link to redeem your reward points. This link directs you to a fake SBI portal that looks genuine. If you enter your login credentials there, you’re unknowingly handing them over to scammers.
Here’s how the scam unfolds:
- Fraudsters will impersonate from SBI, they will send you an SMS containing a link that allows you to use your reward points.
- When you click the link, a fake SBI site that looks like the real one (like INB/YONO/YONO Lite) will open.
- If you Fall for the above step, scammers will have your login id and password.
- You input the login/transaction OTP that you received on your phone but the scammers are also able to view it.
- They swiftly access the genuine SBI website using the same OTP to take funds from your account.
Protect Yourself from SBI Reward Points Scams
Here’s what you can do to safeguard yourself from SBI Reward Points Scam:
- Never click on links in emails or SMS purporting to be from SBI in order to redeem reward points. SMS interactions are not used for this purpose by SBI.
- Do not give sensitive information, such as debit/credit card numbers, PINs, OTPs, CVVs or passwords with anybody, including those purporting to be from SBI.
- SBI will never ask for personal information over phone, SMS or email.
- If you receive a strange SMS from SBI report it immediately by calling on 1930.
