Stock Market Today: Wall Street ends higher

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq closed higher on Thursday as U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell kept up his hawkish rhetoric and signalled the Fed’s cycle of tightening had not yet ended. Powell also assured investors that the Fed will proceed cautiously.

While the S&P 500’s increase was more muted, the tech-heavy Nasdaq experienced a strong gain thanks to momentum stocks led by Amazon.com, Apple Inc., and Microsoft Corp. The blue-chip Dow was virtually flattened by industrials and financials.

Adani Group

Following a damning short seller’s report that claimed the business was secretly manipulating its share prices by utilising offshore companies, US regulators are looking into the claims Adani Group made to its American investors. According to a person with knowledge of the inquiries, institutional investors with sizable stakes in the India conglomerate have received enquiries from the US Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, recently. According to two other persons, the Securities and Exchange Commission is also conducting a related investigation.

HDFC or HDFC BANK

Following the completion of the merger between the two entities, the outstanding warrants issued by HDFC Ltd will be listed and traded under HDFC Bank in accordance with the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (Sebi) relaxation of a rule on the post-merger listing of warrants. This was disclosed to the stock exchanges by the bank. According to HDFC Bank, the BSE and NSE had told it that Sebi had granted a waiver from the application of Rule 19(2)(b) of the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Rule, subject to the stipulated terms.
