Stock Market Today : The stocks weighed down home markets on Tuesday as trading resumed amid mixed global indications. Indian frontline indicators opened in the green but quickly gave up their gains. The S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 60,548.24, down 200 points or 0.33 percent in early trade, while the Nifty50 was trading at 18,053.20, down 48 points or 0.27 percent.
Stock Market Today: Top losers and gainers
Market breadth in the 50-stock Nifty50 was tilted in favour of falls, with 29 equities declining at this time. TCS, Infosys, Britannia Industries, Hero MotoCorp, and Eicher Motors were the top losers, while Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, JSW Steel, and Apollo Hospitals were the top gainers.
The Singapore-based SGX Nifty, an early indicator of Nifty action, was down 16 points or 0.09 percent at 18,157, while Dow futures were down 35 points or 0.10 percent at 33,482.60.
Significant Asian benchmark indices also gave divergent signals
Hours before the start of the local stock markets, major Asian benchmark indices also provided conflicting indications. The Nikkei 225 in Japan was trading at 26,170.80, up 196.93 points or 0.76 percent, while the Shanghai Composite was up roughly 2 points or 0.06 percent at 3,178.02. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng was down 158.91 points, or 0.74 percent, to 21,229.43.
