Stock Market Today: GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX down 18 points, or 0.09 percent, to 19,860, indicating that Dalal Street will likely have a quiet start to the week. In a dull trading session, the Nifty finished 10 points down in the critical 19,800-zone, failing to break above the hurdle at 19850. The strikes of 19800 saw the largest accumulation of PE open interest and build-up in the derivatives market. Only 24 of the Nifty 50 equities ended the trading day in the green, indicating an underperforming market breadth, according to Avdhut Bagkar, Technical and Derivatives Analyst at StoxBox.
Rupee slips; Tokyo stocks opened higher
Due to FII outflows and weak local equities, the rupee fell 2 paise to close at 83.34 against the US dollar on Thursday. After Wall Street bounced back in a pre-holiday session and Treasury yields continued to decline, Tokyo markets began higher on Friday. The larger Topix index increased by 0.75 percent, or 17.73 points, to 2,395.92, while the benchmark Nikkei 225 index increased by 0.89 percent, or 298.61 points, to 33,750.44.
