Stock Market Today: GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX rose by 8 points, to 19,815, indicating that Dalal Street will have a quiet start on Tuesday. On the daily chart, the Nifty ended 38 points down, forming a small red candle with minor upper and lower shadows. On Tuesday, the dollar was on the defensive and trading near multi-month lows against the euro and a handful of other major currencies, as investors expect US interest rates to fall next year and perceive this as a signal to sell the currency.
Rupee falls; Tokyo stocks opened higher
The rupee fell 12 paise to an all-time low of 83.38 against the US dollar on Monday, reflecting a downward trend in domestic markets. Tokyo’s major Nikkei index opened marginally higher on Tuesday after Wall Street gains, with investors looking for the latest indications on the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate plans.The Nikkei 225 index rose 0.05 percent, or 17.37 points, to 33,405.40 in early trade, while the broader Topix index fell 0.09 percent, or 2.22 points, to 2,370.38.
