Stock Market Today: Today’s opening of the Indian equities benchmarks was down, following the lead of the Asian markets. The NSE Nifty 50 index down 16.60 points or 0.09% to 18467.50, and the BSE Sensex was down 53.53 points or 0.09% at 62219.15. Gains and losses occurred across all industries.
The biggest increase & the most declines of Nifty
The Nifty PSU Bank index saw the biggest increase, while the Nifty IT, Nifty Media, and Nifty Metal indexes saw the most declines. The Nifty SmallCap 100 and Nifty MidCap 100 indices increased by up to 0.4% in the larger markets. Major gainers on the Nifty were Larsen & Toubro, Apollo Hospitals, HDFC Life, Axis Bank, and Hero MotoCorp, while losers included Power Grid Corporation, BPCL, ONGC, Adani Enterprises, and Cipla.
Investors became apprehensive when the European Central Bank’s rate-setting committee minutes revealed that, contrary to the US central bank’s opinion, there was little room for slowing down the pace of interest rate adjustments.
Stock Market Today: Asian shares fell in early trades
Early trades saw a decline in Asian shares as the Nikkei index of Japan fell by 0.38 percent, the KOSPI of South Korea declined by 0.18 percent, the Hang Seng Index of Hong Kong went lower by 0.92 percent, and the Shanghai Composite index increased by 0.42 percent. All three of the main US stock indices closed higher overnight.
Net purchases by foreign institutional investors totaled Rs 1,232 crore
According to provisional NSE data, foreign institutional investors bought a net Rs 1,232 crore worth of stocks at home on Thursday, breaking a three-day selling skid, while domestic investors sold a net Rs 236 crore worth of shares.
