Stock Market Today: The S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 in India are expected to open flat on Friday, amid mixed swings in global markets as fears about sharp interest rate hikes linger. Before the opening bell on Dalal Street, Singapore Exchange (SGX) Nifty futures, an early predictor of the Nifty index, were up 11.5 points or 0.1 percent at 18,125.
Corporate earnings from India
Analysts were looking for more corporate earnings from India Inc for domestic cues, with Reliance Industries, RBL Bank, JSW Steel, and HDFC Life among the main corporations scheduled to release financial results on Friday.
Stock Market Today: Other major Asian markets
Other major Asian markets witnessed cautious advances, following a lacklustre handover from Wall Street overnight, with MSCI’s broadest index of Asia Pacific equities outside Japan up 0.4 percent at the time of writing.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s Shanghai
The Nikkei 225 in Japan was up 0.2%, and the Shanghai Composite in China was up 0.6%, but the KOSPI in South Korea was down 0.2%, and the Straits Times in Singapore was down 0.1%.
Stock Market Today: FII and DII data
Foreign institutional investors (FII) bought shares worth Rs 399.98 crore, whereas domestic institutional investors (DII) net sold shares worth Rs 128.96 crore on January 19, as per provisional data available on the NSE.
Stocks from yesterday
S&P 500 futures were up 0.3%, indicating a bullish start for Wall Street. On Thursday, the S&P 500 and Dow Jones sank 0.8% each, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1%, following a report from the US Labor Department that revealed lower-than-expected weekly unemployment claims, indicating that the labour market remains healthy.
