Top 5 stocks of the day: Top gainers on the Nifty included Power Grid Corporation, Adani Ports, UltraTech Cement, Cipla, and NTPC, while top losers were Bharti Airtel, HUL, ONGC, Apollo Hospitals, and Tata Steel. Sector-wise, there was a mixed trend: the auto and healthcare indices increased by 0.5 percent each, the oil and gas index increased by 1%, and the power index increased by nearly 3%. In contrast, the FMCG and metal indices decreased by 0.5 percent each. The BSE midcap index increased by 0.7%.
Sensex and NSE Nifty50
The Nifty was down 36.50 points, or 0.17 percent, at 20,901.20, and the Sensex was down 132.04 points, or 0.19 percent, at 69,521.69, at the closing. A little over 1893 shares rose, 1342 shares fell, and 81 shares remained constant. After a seven-day winning run, benchmark indices concluded the tumultuous session on December 7 lower.

Oil prices gained some ground
After plunging to a six-month low the day before, oil prices gained some ground on Thursday, but investors were still worried about weak demand in China and the US. Brent crude futures had increased by 76 cents, or 1%, to $75.06 a barrel. At $70.05 a barrel, U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures saw an increase of 67 cents, or 1%.
