Dollar steadies in uneasy market calm
On Wednesday, the dollar increased somewhat against most of its major competitors, stabilising after previous dips, and fell significantly versus the yen, which was unstable as the end of the Japanese fiscal year drew near. The dollar index, which compares the dollar to six other currencies, increased 0.15 percent to 102.64. It has decreased for the past two sessions and is expected to tumble 2.1 percent monthly as a result of market turbulence brought on by issues in the banking sector.
At $1.0834, the euro was down slightly on the day, and sterling was down slightly at $1.2316, just off the previous day’s close to two-month intraday high of $1.2348.
