Top 5 stocks of the day: BPCL, Power Grid Corporation, Coal India, SBI Life Insurance and HDFC Life are the top gainers on the Nifty, while Tata Motors, L&T, UPL, IndusInd Bank, and TCS were the top losers. The power index was up 1%, FMCG, PSU Bank, metal, and oil & gas each gained 0.5 %, and all sectoral indices finished in the green. Smallcap index increased by 0.7 percent, while BSE Midcap index increased by 0.4 percent.

Sensex and NSE Nifty50

At closing, the Nifty was up 79.70 points or 0.40 percent at 19,811.50, while the Sensex was up 261.16 points, or 0.39 percent, at 66,428.09. A total of 2102 shares increased, 1451 fell, and 142 were constant. On October 17, benchmark indices closed the day higher, with the Nifty rising beyond 19,800 on buying activity in all sectors.

Dabur India gets tax notice

Dabur India has received notification of tax determined to be due under Section 74(5) of the CGST Act, 2017, wherein the Company has been advised to pay the GST short paid / not paid amounting to Rs 3,20,60,53,069 along with the amount of applicable interest and penalty under Section 74(5) of the COST Act, 2017, failing which a Show Cause Notice will be issued.
