Top 5 stocks of the day: Coal India, HCL Technologies, Axis Bank, SBI, and Bajaj Auto are the top gainers on the Nifty, while Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, SBI Life Insurance, UPL, ITC, and Asian Paints are the top losers. All sectoral indices finished in the green, with the PSU Bank index up 4%. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices are both up almost 2%.

The Sensex closed up 634.65 points, at 63,782.80, while the Nifty closed up 190.00 points, or 1.01 percent, at 19,047.30. Around 2673 shares rose, 825 fell, and 125 were unchanged. Benchmark indices ended higher after snapping a six-day losing trend, with the Nifty back over 20,000.

Dollar rose for the third time in a month
Ahead of the Bank of Japan’s policy meeting next week, the yen stumbled around the 150 mark, while the dollar strengthened on Friday and is expected to rise for a third consecutive month as strong U.S. economic data supported the idea of keeping interest rates high for an extended period of time. Data released on Thursday revealed that the third quarter had the strongest rate of growth in the U.S. economy in over two years, driven primarily by consumer spending and rising salaries as a result of a tight labour market.
