Oil dips with interest rates and inventories in focus
Following early data that indicated a decline in stocks, traders’ anticipation of more interest rate increases were offset by potentially optimistic U.S. oil inventory data, which led to a modest decline in oil futures on Thursday. At 08:40 GMT, Brent futures decreased by 47 cents, or 0.6 percent, to reach $76.65 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil futures fell by 44 cents, or 0.6 percent, to reach $72.09.
The benchmarks had strengthened the session before as U.S. maize and soybean prices soared to multi-month highs, prompting hopes that crop shortages may reduce the amount of biofuels blended and raise oil demand.
