The Sensex closed up 79.22 points at 65,075.82, while the Nifty rose 36.70 points to 19,342.70. About 2023 shares rose, 1475 fell, and 138 remained unchanged. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices each increased by 0.5 percent. In the tumultuous session on August 29, benchmark indices finished higher.

Oil change; Rupee falls
Oil prices are barely changed on Tuesday as investors evaluated the long-term risk of another US interest rate hike undermining demand against supply concerns stemming from a hurricane barreling towards the US gulf coast. The Indian rupee fall on Tuesday as the US dollar recovered and crude oil prices rose. FII outflows weighed on the domestic currency as well. Positive domestic equities, on the other hand, mitigated the negative. Brent crude was up 28 cents to $84.70 a barrel by 0820 GMT, while West Texas Intermediate crude was up 25 cents to $80.35 a barrel.
