Top 5 stocks of the day: The top gainers are Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, SBI Life Insurance, TCS and NTPC. On the other, the top losers on the Nifty are ITC, Divis Labs, HUL, BPCL, and Tata Steel. With capital goods, metal, power, real estate, oil and gas, FMCG, and pharmaceuticals all losing 0.5–1% of their value, all sectoral indices finished the day worse. Both the BSE Smallcap and Midcap indexes decreased by 0.7% and 1%, respectively.

Sensex and NSE Nifty50

Both the Sensex and the Nifty had dropped by 231.62 points and 0.35 percent, respectively, to settle at 65,397.62 and 19,542.70, respectively. In around 1333 shares, there were advances, declines, and unchanged shares totaling 2234. The Nifty closed at 19,550 on October 20, marking the third day in a row that benchmark indices finished lower.

Kotak Mahindra Bank got permission

The RBI gave Kotak Mahindra Bank permission to purchase all of Sonata Finance’s issued and paid-up capital and to establish Sonata as a business correspondent subsidiary of the bank. Once the aforementioned deal is completed (and further necessary permissions are obtained), Sonata will become a fully-owned subsidiary of the Bank.
