Top 5 stocks of the day: The top gainers on the Nifty includes Power Grid Corporation, BPCL, Britannia Industries, Apollo Hospitals and HDFC Bank. The Sensex was up 358.79 points, or 0.51 percent, at 70,865.10 on December 21, while the Nifty was up 104.80 points, or 0.50 percent, at 21,255.00. Around 2564 shares rose, 1068 fell, and 116 remained unchanged.

Sensex and NSE Nifty50

The Nifty50 index opened gap-down, broke the 21,000 level, and hovered around that level for the first few hours. However, the market quickly recovered from the day’s low point and traded comfortably above 21,200 for the remainder of the session, forming a strong bullish candle in today’s trade. The index recovered more than 300 points, reaching a high of 21,288.35 before closing at 21,255.05, up 104.80 points or 0.50 percent.

Nifty Bank index also started on a negative note

The Nifty Bank index began the day lower as well, but recovered to end the day 0.8 percent higher at 47,840.20. On the downside, 46,900 is a critical support level for the Bank Nifty, and as long as it holds, the index is expected to resume its upward trend towards 48,200. According to Mandar Bhojane, Research Analyst at Choice Broking, the overall trend is positive, and declines towards 47,300-47,000 should be viewed as buying opportunities.
