Top 5 stocks of the day: Wipro, HCL Technologies, Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp and Hindalco Industries are the top Nifty gainers, while Grasim Industries, SBI Life Insurance, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are the top losers. Other than banks, every sectoral index finished the day higher. The indexes for cars, capital goods, healthcare, and oil and gas all increased by 1%, while the indexes for information technology, metal, and real estate increased by 2% each. The BSE smallcap index increased by 1% and the midcap index by 0.7%.
Sensex and NSE Nifty50
The Nifty was up 94.40 points, or 0.44 percent, at 21,349.40 at the close, while the Sensex was up 241.86 points, or 0.34 percent, at 71,106.96. A little over 2144 shares rose, 1074 shares fell, and 88 shares remained unchanged. On December 22, Indian benchmark indices closed higher for the second session in a row, with Nifty closing above 21,300.

Azad Engineering IPO has seen healthy response from investors
Investors of all stripes responded well to the Azad Engineering initial public offering (IPO), subscribing 70.33 times. On December 22, the last day of bidding, participants placed bids for 71.19 crore equity shares against the offer size of 1.01 crore shares. The lead buyers were the qualified institutional buyers, who purchased shares at a rate of 153.13 times the quota; the shares reserved for high net worth individuals (non-institutional investors) and retail investors were purchased at a rate of 79.71 and 21.32 times, respectively. Workers who have reserved shares in the IPO worth Rs 4 crore have placed bids that are 11.80 times higher than the reserved amount.
