Users of Twitter will soon be able to request the suspension of accounts that threaten violence or harass specific individuals.
Twitter says from February 1 onwards, users will be appeal on account suspension
Twitter announced on Tuesday that starting on February 1 users would be able to contest account bans and be assessed in accordance with its revised criteria for reinstatement.
Twitter would take less severe action than suspending accounts
The requirements for appealing suspension include serious policy violations such engaging in illegal behavior, publishing illegal content, threatening others with violence or other harm, and specifically harassing other users. The business announced that instead of suspending the accounts, it would now take less extreme action. Either limit the reach of people who transgress the rules or ask the handles to delete the tweets before using their accounts again.
According to rumours, Twitter cancelled the accounts of numerous tech journalists in December 2022 after they revealed that a handle had been suspended for posting publicly accessible information on Elon Musk’s flying activities. The journalists had emphasised the inconsistency between Musk’s frequent affirmations of his dedication to free speech and his decision to stop any Twitter account he so chose.
After much backlash over the decision, the accounts were later reinstated.
