Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the visionary behind Paytm, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the remarkable growth of India’s digital services ecosystem. In the tweet, he stated, “India’s new-age technology firms have sparked a revolution in job creation at scale, generating crores of well-paying jobs that fuel our local economy. These colleagues are building a digital services ecosystem that the world admires—quick deliveries, local rides, and Paytm QR at every corner. Proud of every member of Indian Digital Services, who works relentlessly and takes pride in their work. (Yes, I prefer to call them members of Indian Digital Services instead of gig workers). Together, we’re shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and proud Digital India.” In the end he wrote, "Hum hai naye, toh andaaz kyu ho purana."
Sharma’s tweet drew attention to the importance of companies like Paytm, Uber, and others in creating a vast job network that benefits both the economy and the workers. Netizens React to Uber Rider Earning ₹80,000 a Month
The viral video of the Uber rider boasting about his ₹80,000 monthly earnings sparked a wide range of reactions online. Some netizens were quick to celebrate the success of the digital economy, with one user commenting, “India’s IT Services Industry now has a sibling – India’s Digital Services Industry that is generating jobs for Indians like never before.” Another praised the role of platforms like Paytm, Zomato, and Ola in reshaping job markets, adding, “Next AI should bring a level playing field for everyone much beyond the top 5%. Paytm, Zomato, Ola did it. Let’s do new things again with AI.”
However, not all reactions were positive. Some users raised questions about the authenticity of such earnings. One remarked, “We can’t generalize it. How many of these are true? Further, ₹80,000 is total income or net income? Lots to answer. Fake narratives rule the internet.” Another user criticised the video's claims, stating, “That’s a lie Mr. @vijayshekhar • ₹80k pm is ~₹205/hour. Rate ~₹8/km, means ~26km/hr (avg 40km/hr). Also, petrol costs, maintenance, and commissions come into play.” They questioned the feasibility of maintaining such high earnings consistently, pointing out the many variables at play in the gig economy.
