Vande Bharat Sleeper Train – The country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to hit the tracks by December 2024, as confirmed by railway sources. The train, manufactured at BEML’s facility, is being transferred to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) for crucial trials, starting with oscillation tests. Once these are complete, the train will undergo further stability, speed, and technical trials before being opened to passengers. The entire process is expected to take about two months.
Commercial Operations by December
The commercial run of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is anticipated to begin in December, following its trial run scheduled to start in the coming days. If all goes according to plan, this will mark a significant milestone in India’s rail travel with the introduction of its first sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat series.
Routes and Speculations
Although the final route for the Vande Bharat Sleeper is yet to be confirmed, proposals have been received from various zones across the country. The train may initially operate on popular routes connecting cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. A final decision is expected soon.
Fare and Facilities
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has assured that the fare for the Vande Bharat Sleeper will be on par with Rajdhani Express, maintaining affordability for passengers. The train will offer several modern amenities, including integrated reading lights, USB charging ports, public announcement and visual information systems, display panels, security cameras, and a modular pantry. Special accommodations, such as accessible berths and toilets for Divyang passengers, along with hot water shower facilities in First AC coaches, will also be provided.
Capacity and Speed
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will feature 16 coaches, comprising 11 3AC, 4 2AC, and 1 First AC coaches, with a seating capacity of 823 passengers. It is designed to run at a speed of 160 km/h, with a top potential speed of 180 km/h, offering faster travel options for passengers across key routes.
Enhanced Safety and Comfort
In addition to passenger comfort, special attention has been given to the safety and well-being of loco pilots and attendants. The train’s loco cab has been redesigned with improved safety features, and pre-fitted armor has been installed for added protection.
As the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train prepares for its trial runs, excitement builds for its official launch, promising a new era of comfortable and faster rail travel in India.
