The huge increase in the prices of vegetables has spoiled the budget of the people. Vegetable bags are not being filled even for Rs.500. Tomatoes were sold for Rs 90 to 100 per kg in Korba district on Wednesday. The price of green vegetables is also between 50 to 100 rupees. Almost every household consumes one to two kilos of tomatoes, which enhance the flavor of vegetables, but now people have to think 50 times even to buy half a kilo of tomatoes. Tomato prices have doubled in the last two days only.
On Sunday, where tomatoes were sold for Rs.50 forts. On the other hand, on Wednesday, people had to buy tomatoes for 90 to 100 rupees per kg. Vegetable traders are telling the reason for the sudden increase in the low supply. A businessman told that two days ago the carat of tomato was 1100 to 1200 rupees, which has now increased to 1800 rupees. Due to this the price of tomato has increased. Apart from this, the prices of green vegetables have also increased.
Rise in ginger prices
Cauliflower is being sold at 60 to 80, brinjal 40 to 50, bitter gourd 50 to 80, pumpkin 30 to 40, okra 30 to 40, munga 80 to 100 and parwal 50 to 60 per kg. The taste of vegetables increases in rain, but due to inflation, the taste of people’s plate has become tasteless. Along with this, the kitchen budget of the housewives has also deteriorated. In summer, ginger was being sold at Rs.20 a loaf, which has now increased to Rs.60 to 70 a loaf. Ginger, which enhances the taste of tea and vegetables, has now gone out of reach of people.
Relief from potato, onion prices
Earlier one kilo of ginger used to be available, now one loaf of ginger is available for that much. Apart from this, the price of garlic has also increased. Vegetable traders are also selling lemon on their own terms. While the price of green vegetables has made them disappear from the plate, potatoes and onions have taken their place. The stability in the prices of potato and onion amid inflation has given great relief to the people.
Potatoes are available for Rs 25 to 30 per kg, while onions are reaching people’s homes with Rs 25 per kg. Vegetable traders tell that the prices of onions increase in the rain. Probably in a week or two the price of onions will also make people cry.
