Vistara Airlines: Vistara Airlines, a prominent joint venture of the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, has announced a reduction in flight operations by 10%, equivalent to approximately 25-30 flights daily. This strategic move comes in response to the ongoing crisis stemming from the unavailability of pilots and crew members.
Vistara Airlines Trims Operations by 10% Amid Pilot Shortage Crisis
The airline had initially scheduled over 300 flights daily for its summer schedule. However, the recent wave of pilot absenteeism, attributed to protests against the stretched roster and revised salary structure ahead of Vistara’s merger with Air India, has disrupted flight operations significantly.
In a statement released on Sunday, Vistara expressed its intention to scale back operations to the level seen at the end of February 2024. This decision aims to enhance operational resilience and buffer in the rosters amidst the ongoing challenges.
“These cancellations primarily affect the domestic network and have been implemented well in advance to minimize inconvenience to customers,” the airline stated. It further assured that affected passengers have been re-accommodated on alternative flights, ensuring minimal disruption to travel plans.
Vistara’s recent actions follow the cancellation of more than 125 flights over a span of three days
Vistara’s recent actions follow the cancellation of more than 125 flights over a span of three days starting from April 1. In response, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has requested the airline to provide daily reports on flight cancellations and delays, reflecting the severity of the situation.
Despite these challenges, Vistara remains committed to enhancing its operational efficiency and ensuring an improved on-time performance for passengers.
