The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted raids in different parts of the country in connection with the Sub-Inspector recruitment case in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the information, the CBI during its investigation has found that 20 to 30 lakh rupees were taken as bribe from the interested candidates for their selection for the post of sub-inspector. Officials said that once the money was paid by the families of the candidates, they were given question papers even before the commencement of the examination.
On Tuesday raids were conducted at about 36 places in four states. CBI officers searched residential and official premises of suspects in Jammu, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, Karnal in Haryana, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Gandhidham in Gujarat, Delhi, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Bangalore in Karnataka, including Jammu and Kashmir Staff Selection Former Chairman of the Board (JKSSB). The whereabouts of Jahangir and the then controller of examinations Ashok Kumar are also included.During this, the locations of a Deputy Superintendent of Police including some members of the gang living in Haryana, some teachers, some serving and retired officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police were also raided by the investigating agency.
During this it came to light that the racket was carried out by some people living in Haryana, some teachers from J&K as well as some serving and retired personnel of CRPF, some officers of J&K Police and top J&K Staff Selection Board. Earlier on August 5, the CBI had raided the premises of the accused at 30 places including Jammu, Srinagar and Bengaluru.
“During the investigation, incriminating documents and digital evidence have been recovered so far,” the CBI said in a statement.
The CBI on August 3, 2022 against 33 accused on the request of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on allegations of irregularities in the written examination for the posts of Sub-Inspector in Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) on March 27, 2022 case was registered. The results of this examination were declared on June 4, 2022.
The CBI further said, “There were allegations of malpractices in the examination. The Jammu and Kashmir government had constituted an inquiry committee for this. It was alleged that the accused in connivance with the officials of JKSSB, Bengaluru based private company and beneficiary candidates conspired and committed gross irregularities in the written examination for the posts of Sub-Inspector. The inquiry committee also found that the percentage of selected candidates from Jammu, Rajouri and Samba districts was unusually high’. The JKSSB had allegedly entrusted the task of preparing the question paper to a Bengaluru-based private company by flouting the rules.
