The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a major action against the online sale and distribution of child pornography. The CBI on Saturday raided 56 locations in 19 states and one union territory in two cases related to child pornography. This operation has been named as ‘Operation MeghChakra’. CBI officials have given this information.
A CBI official said that the raids are based on information received from Interpol Singapore and intelligence received during last year’s ‘Operation Carbon’. After the information received from Interpol, various teams of more than 200 CBI officers were formed to crack down on this entire network.
The raids focused on cloud storage services that criminals use to broadcast audio-visuals of illegal sexual activity with children. Due to this the campaign was named ‘Operation Megh Chakra’.
In this regard, an official said that the CBI has conducted raids against the criminals who broadcast CSAM across the country. This is not the first case related to child pornography in the country. Such cases have come to the fore before. Last year also, the CBI had raided several locations in 14 states in connection with child pornography. 7 people were arrested in this raid. Also, many WhatsApp groups were exposed, with the help of which such incidents are carried out.
