CBI has called Anil Deshmukh for questioning on Wednesday in connection with allegations of corruption levelled against him, officials said.
On Sunday, CBI had recorded the statements of Deshmukh’s personal secretary Sanjiv Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde who were allegedly present when the minister demanded the bribe.
Suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Waze had told the CBI in his statement that Deshmukh demanded Rs 100 crore bribe from him after suggesting to extort the money from bars-restaurants.
On April 6, CBI registered a preliminary enquiry against Deshmukh, after Bombay HC directed the agency to probe allegations against Deshmukh levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Deshmukh resigned from his position on April 5 just hours after the high court order, in which the bench observed that an independent probe against him was not possible as the state police reported to him.
